The Australian Tennis Open is one of the biggest sporting event held in the city of Melbourne each year. This summer, all tickets can be purchased through Ticketek. The Australian Open is a tennis tournament goes for two weeks of the year in January. Exciting time watching all the great players such as Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Serena Williams, Novak Djokovic and more.
Australia Day is marked on the 26 January, every year its a national public holiday in Australia. Many Australians traditionally celebrate today with an Aussie BBQ and for thousands of people today, officially become Australian citizens for the first time ever, no matter where your personal stories begin, today we can celebrate contemporary Australia to recognise our history.
History of Australia
Captain James Cook discovered Australia in 1770, following the first British fleet that arrived in January 1788, on the shores at Sydney’s Botany Bay and shortly after relocated further north to Sydney Cove on the 26th of January this marked the day the UK flag was raised as the official declaration of British sovereignty on the land called Australia, which is partly the reason the 26th of January is called Australia Day, but we are in favour to change the day to a date that all Australians can support!.
The Campaign to change the
In 1994 the federal government declared the 26 of January marked as a national public holiday, Australians have been celebrating this day since 1935 with all the states territories. But for many Indigenous and non-Indigenous people who stand in support of changing the day, as it’s considered a day of mourning. There is a sense, that there are two Australians, the local indigenous who occupied the land for thousands of years before the arrival of the First British Fleet who colonised Australia in 1788
